Zaporizhia nuclear reactor No. 6 reconnected to power grids
Reactor No. 6 of Zaporizhia nuclear power plant (NPP) whose disconnection from the power grid at 05:59 Kyiv time on Sunday morning was unscheduled, was reconnected to the power grid at 22:35 on the same day, the NPP said in a statement.
"[The plant's] is increasing capacity," the statement reads.
All six Zaporizhia NPP reactors are now operational. Background radiation on the industrial site and in the sanitary protection zone (the area within a radius of 2.5 kilometers around the NPP) is 8-12 micro roentgen per hour, which corresponds to natural background radiation in the area where Zaporizhia NPP is located.
As reported, Zaporizhia NPP reactor No. 6 was disconnected by the generator safety system. The reactor's installation was at 40% of capacity at that point.
Zaporizhia NPP is the biggest energy facility in Ukraine and Europe, with an installed capacity of 6 gigawatts. It consists of six reactors with a capacity of 1 gigawatt each. It accounts for about 50% of the electricity generated by Ukraine's NPPs, and for over 22% of the nation's electricity output.
