Ukraine unwelcome in NATO - Opposition Bloc member
Ukraine's decision to repeal its non-aligned status has no meaning except a political one, says Oleksandr Vilkul, a deputy head of the Opposition Bloc parliamentary faction at the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada.
"Ukraine's abandonment of its non-aligned status in any case has no essence except political," Vilkul said at the parliamentary session hall while the bill on the repeal of Ukraine's non-aligned status was being discussed on Tuesday.
Visa-free travel with the European Union and European standards of living "remained only declarations," Vilkul said. "The same will be with NATO. Nobody is waiting for us anywhere," he said.
It was reported earlier on Tuesday that the Verkhovna Rada had amended the laws on fundamentals of internal and external policy and on fundamentals of Ukraine's national security to repeal the country's non-aligned status.
