Energoatom mulling use of Westinghouse fuel at 13 power units of Ukraine's NPPs
State enterprise Energoatom is mulling the expansion of using Westinghouse nuclear fuel at 13 power units of Ukrainian nuclear power plants (NPP), Company President Yuriy Nedashkovsky has said.
"We are considering the possibility of expanding and using this fuel at all VVER-1000 power units," he told reporters at the French-Ukrainian Business Forum held in Kyiv.
According to him, if TBC-WR nuclear fuel, which will be loaded into the third block of Yuzhnoukrainsk NPP in the beginning of the next year, is successfully used during the fuel campaign of 2015, there will be made the decision to extend its trial operation at power unit No. 5 of Zaporizhia NPP.
Nedashkovsky noted that he supports a competitive approach to the selection of nuclear fuel suppliers.
"A tender is announced, the winner will receive 80% of the order, and the loser, who is not excluded but will breathe down the winner's back, will get 20%. A similar tender will be hold in a few years," he explained.
