Luhansk region shelled 16 times in past 24 hours – governor
The head of the Luhansk region administration, Hennadiy Moskal, has accused the militants of failing to observe the truce.
Moskal's press service reported on Thursday that "in the past 24 hours, militants have carried out 16 strikes against the positions of Ukrainian governments forces and populated areas of the Luhansk region." There were 12 such incidents on December 9, the press service said.
"The village of Krymske, the village of Kriakivka in the Novoaidar district, the town of Schastia and the village of Chornukhyne in the Popasna district have come under fire over the past 24 hours. There were no fatalities or injuries among the civilian population," it said.
The situation is relatively calm in Stanytsia Luhanska, a Kyiv-controlled area of the Luhansk region that has seen some of the fiercest fighting, Moskal said.
"Local infrastructure is functioning normally. Repair teams are fixing damaged power lines and gas mains," Moskal said.
A "day of silence" was declared in the army operation area in eastern Ukraine on December 9.
