Stoltenberg: Ukraine should determine its own future without outside interference
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has said that the alliance will continue to show its support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
"We will continue to work closely with the Ukrainian government to help implement their plans for reforms of the defense and security sector. And we will be stepping up our concrete support," he said in Brussels on Tuesday, while opening a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission at the level of foreign ministers.
"We support Ukraine's freedom to decide its own future without outside interference," he added.
Stoltenberg said that Kyiv had a difficult reform path ahead and that the alliance was ready to support the government's efforts to pursue a political path that meets the aspirations of the people of all the regions of Ukraine.
Ukraine is represented at the meeting by Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin, who, through a videoconference, will discuss with his colleagues the priorities in the work of a new Ukrainian government.
