Stoltenberg expects concrete decisions from NATO member states on support for Ukraine
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has said that Russia's actions in eastern Ukraine undermine Euro-Atlantic security.
"We see a major increase in Russian military activity around Europe and beyond," he said at his monthly press conference in Brussels on Monday.
Speaking about the situation in Ukraine, Stoltenberg said that at the alliance's summit in Wales in September this year, the allies had expressed their solidarity with Ukraine by supporting its independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty.
"The people of Ukraine spoke out in favor of democracy, unity and European integration. And NATO will continue to support Ukraine on its chosen path," he said.
Stoltenberg also said that he expected concrete decisions on support for Ukraine from a meeting of the foreign ministers of NATO member countries on December 2-3. He did not say exactly what decisions were in question, stressing only that, in particular, trust funds established by NATO to help Ukraine implement defense reforms would soon begin to work.
