Energoatom plan to have 13 reactors operating in winter period
National Nuclear Generating Company Energoatom plans to have 13 out of 15 reactors of nuclear power plants (NPPs) in Ukraine in the winter period, Energoatom Director for Safety Danko Biley has told reporters.
"We'll have 13 reactors operating in January and February, and further we'll cut [the number of operating reactors]. We need to prepare for next winter," he said.
Biley added that today 13 out of 15 reactors are operating and two reactors are undergoing repair.
This year the Energoatom's share of total power generation in Ukraine is around 50%, and this month – 56%, and sometimes it reaches 60%.
Energoatom is the operator of all four Ukrainian-based operating nuclear power plants, which have 15 VVER reactors with an overall generating capacity of 13.835 gigawatts.
