Ukraine waiting for signal from EU that door remains open – Foreign Ministry
Ukrainian society has made an important step on the path of European integration over the past year and hopes to hear from the European Union that "the door remains open," Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister for European Integration Olena Zerkal has said.
"We now live in a different society, in a different world. The Ukrainian society has made a step forward towards integration with Europe," she said in Brussels on Tuesday at a conference organized by the European Policy Center.
She noted that Kyiv understands the need for political and economic reforms in the country, adding that newly elected MPs also have the same understanding.
"Most of the reforms are envisaged in a coalition agreement. We hope that the coalition agreement will be the basis for reforms," she said.
Zerkal said it was important that the European Union supports Ukraine in implementing reforms: "Of course, it's important to hear for Ukraine and, I think, for other countries that signed and ratified the [association] agreement that the EU's door remains open."
