Poroshenko, Steinmeier discuss possible talks on Donbas in Weimar format – president's press service
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier in the course of the recent meeting in Kyiv discussed a possibility to hold talks in the "Weimar format" to settle the situation in the east of Ukraine.
"As a part of the international efforts meant to peacefully settle [the Ukraine crisis] the interlocutors agreed that it is reasonable to use various multilateral formats of the talks, which are to bring ceasefire, withdraw the troops and heavy machinery [from the Ukrainian territory] and to release the hostages. In particular, in addition to the Geneva and Normandy formats there was a proposal to organize 'Weimar format' with the participation of German, Poland and France," the president's press service reported on Tuesday.
