The Ukrainian president's wife, Maryna Poroshenko, and Japanese Ambassador to Ukraine Shigeki Sumi have discussed the implementation of existing projects and the situation in Donbas, the presidential press service has reported.
"Today we discussed with Mr. Ambassador two new projects for Ukraine, with the support of the government of Japan. The first concerns assistance worth $6 million to rebuild Donbas, as well as $1 million for medical needs through a UN development program. In the near future the funds will be transferred for their designated use under a respective agreement," the press service quoted Poroshenko as saying on Friday.
During the meeting the sides also discussed the reconstruction of the Bortnychi aeration station, imports of medical equipment from Japan, as well as the extension of the Kusanone human security project.
Poroshenko also congratulated Sumi on his appointment as Japan's ambassador to Ukraine and wished him success in the country.
