Over ten Ukrainian army troops killed at 32nd checkpoint in Luhansk region – NSDC

More than ten Ukrainian army soldiers have been killed at the 32nd checkpoint near the village of Smile in the Luhansk region since the beginning of September, National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) spokesman Andriy Lysenko said at a press briefing in Kyiv.

All servicemen have already been withdrawn from this checkpoint and will be able to take a vacation now, he added.

"The preliminary information available suggests that over ten people have been killed in this area over the period of confrontation (since the beginning of September). All dead bodies are now being identified and the situation surrounding several servicemen officially listed as missing is being investigated," Lysenko said.

He promised to make a more detailed announcement on the matter later.

Ukrainian servicemen were withdrawn from the 3rd checkpoint on Monday evening.

"The soldiers are receiving psychological and medical aid. They will also be given a vacation," Lysenko said.

The Ukrainian army no longer controls the area where the 32nd checkpoint was located, he said.
