DPR doesn't guarantee safety of OSCE drones

The administration of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) is not against OSCE drone flights over the territory of the self-proclaimed republic, but warns of technical problems with ensuring their safety.

"Politically we are, no doubt, not against the OSCE launching its drones to monitor the situation. However, there are a number of technical issues here, which have not been resolved yet," Andrei Purgin, first deputy prime minister of the DPR, told Interfax.

Specifically, Purgin said it is not quite clear how an OSCE drone can be distinguished from a similar Ukrainian drone.

"We cannot rule out the possibility of identification errors and it is current technically difficult to guarantee the safety of such flights," Purgin said.

Alexander Hug, deputy head of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine, told reporters on October 8 that the two drones delivered to Ukraine will begin working in the very near future. He said the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission is working on increasing the number of its drones, which will help the mission's experts monitor the situation in the eastern regions of Ukraine.
