Yatseniuk welcomes adoption of package of anti-corruption laws

The adoption by the Verkhovna Rada at first reading of a package of anti-corruption laws and deregulation will help Ukraine take the path of a real fight against corruption, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has said.

"The adoption of an anti-corruption package, the creation of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau, the tightening of the responsibility of officials, the disclosure of all information about property, checking financial accounts and monitoring the life of senior officials, and, on the other hand, deregulation, depriving officials of excessive powers, reducing the number of inspection agencies and functions - all of this will enable Ukraine to take the path to the real fight against corruption," he said on his Facebook page on Tuesday.

He noted that this was one of the key elements of the plan of economic recovery in Ukraine.

"Money is not given to corrupt countries, and investors do not go to corrupt countries," he said.

At the same time, Yatseniuk said that "the adoption of laws alone will not overcome the real corruption."

"That's why the government over the past few months has taken the path of deregulation and the reduction of corruption functions of a number of government agencies," he said.

Yatseniuk said that the anti-corruption package had been drafted by the Cabinet of Ministers for five months together with the GRECO organization - the Council of Europe's Group of States against Corruption.

"Dozens of world experts were involved in its preparation – U.S. and European experts, who, together with the government and the president, drafted a package of five anti-corruption laws," he said.
