Ukraine's federalization is not at issue, said Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.
Ukraine will remain united, he said in an interview with 1+1 television, broadcast on Sunday evening.
"I can assure you that the issues of sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence are not on the agenda. Ukraine is and will remain united. No federalization is possible. Ukraine will be a single, unitary state," Poroshenko said.
Every effort should be made now to stop fatalities, he continued.
Asked to comment on frozen conflicts in the former Soviet Union, he said that they were due to the absence of dialogue. "The conflicting parties were convinced that they must fight to the end," Poroshenko said.
"I can speak from my own diplomatic experience. Transdniestria, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Nagorno Karabakh and other frozen conflicts have been going on for decades for two reasons. One of them is that no dialogue was established to negotiate a prompt and effective way out of the situation. This led to the de-facto formation of state entities which divided the countries," he said.
