There will be no peacekeepers in eastern Ukraine - Poroshenko
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that there will be no peacekeeping contingent in Donbas.
"There will be no peacekeeping contingents, because the experience of using peacekeeping troops in Transdniestria and in other frozen conflicts has led to the fact that states lose sovereignty over this territory. There will be no peacekeeping contingents on Ukrainian territory," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday, when asked whether it makes sense to consider the introduction of peacekeeping forces in Donbas.
He said that the OSCE special monitoring mission had been increased to monitor the situation in the east of Ukraine.
"Today 500 inspectors of this mission are operating in Ukraine," Poroshenko said.
