Ukraine leader thanks German chancellor for her role in Donbas conflict settlement
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed the situation in Ukraine's eastern regions over the phone last night.
"The president of Ukraine thanked the chancellor of Germany for her efforts aimed at securing a peaceful settlement in Donbas. He also highly praised the German government's assistance with promoting international dialogue, including a four-party meeting of the foreign ministers of Germany, Ukraine, France and Russia held on August 17. The sides agreed that a meeting at the highest level should become the next step as part of the search for solutions [to the Ukrainian crisis]," the Ukrainian leader's press service reported.
Poroshenko and Merkel also discussed the European Union's role in further talks on ways to resolve the situation in eastern Ukraine.
