Rada fails to put on today's agenda three bills on elections of MPs
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has refused to put on the agenda three bills on the election of MPs of Ukraine.
None of the three bills that had been put on the agenda garnered the necessary number of votes – 226, a correspondent of Interfax-Ukraine reported.
Verkhovna Rada Chairman Oleksandr Turchynov proposed to put on the agenda a bill on amendments to the law of Ukraine on the election of MPs on improvements to specific provisions (No. 4470-a authored by MP Serhiy Sobolev), a bill on amendments to some laws of Ukraine on improvements to the law on the election of MPs (bill No. 4471-a from MP Andriy Ivanchuk), and bill No. 4222-a, proposed by Sobolev, on the elections of MPs under open party lists.
The first bill foresees the rapid holding of elections, cutting the financing of the elections, and holding elections under the 2006-2007 scheme.
According to Turchynov, if the Ukrainian parliament fails to approve a new law on elections or fails to amend the old one, early elections will be held under the current law.
