ICRC to send head of its regional office to Ukraine
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) President Peter Maurer discussed the situation concerning an international humanitarian aid mission for Ukraine's eastern regions over the phone, the Ukrainian leader's press service has said.
Maurer assured Poroshenko that the ICRC was prepared to extend comprehensive assistance for this mission, the press service said.
The sides also agreed that the ICRC would tackle all organizational and logistical issues as part of this international effort, it said.
"Maurer told Poroshenko about plans to send the head of the Red Cross regional office to Ukraine," the press service said.
Poroshenko, for his part, invited the ICRC president to visit Ukraine any time soon.
"Maurer thanked President Poroshenko for the invitation and accepted it," the press service said.
