Poroshenko, Biden discuss humanitarian aid for Luhansk

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has spoken with U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden on the phone, the press service of the head of state reported on Saturday.

"Petro Poroshenko announced his initiative to provide Ukrainian aid and attract international humanitarian aid to Luhansk under the auspices of the ICRC and invited the United States to join it," reads the statement.

Biden, in turn, expressed support for Ukraine's efforts to establish humanitarian aid "without any foreign military escort of the mission."

"Biden expressed support for Ukraine's efforts to establish humanitarian assistance in strict compliance with international law and the laws of Ukraine and a multilateral format, including with the involvement of the United States," the press service reported.

Poroshenko also thanked the United States for its support of Ukraine's position in international financial organizations and expressed hope that the IMF will take a positive decision on August 29 regarding the allocation of the second tranche to Ukraine under the stand-by program.
