Poroshenko discusses ways to restore stability in eastern Ukraine with Merkel

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and German Chancellor Angela Merkel have discussed by telephone the situation in eastern Ukraine and the inquiry into the crash of the Malaysian passenger liner.

The two leaders agreed that an end to military hardware and weapon supplies to militants is the key issue, the Ukrainian president's press service reported on Sunday.

Both spoke about the importance of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe's monitoring mission at checkpoints and along the border.

Poroshenko informed Merkel about Ukraine's efforts to ensure a maximally transparent and effective international investigation into the air disaster.

"Looting and theft of the dead air passengers' bank cards and personal belongings, as well as the way the terrorists handle the bodies, go beyond the human moral limits," the press service said.

Merkel agreed that such a conduct is unacceptable.

Poroshenko and Merkel agreed to maintain contact and coordinate further moves, it said.
