Poroshenko regarding sanctions against Russia: we do not need sanctions for sanctions' sake, we need peace
The possibility of introducing additional sanctions against Russia due to actions against Ukraine was discussed in the framework of the EU summit, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said.
"If you translate… this concerns namely the possible introduction of sanctions," Poroshenko said at a news conference in Brussels on Friday.
"But I would like to emphasize three times that we do not need sanctions for the sake of sanctions, we do not need some damage inflicted to Russia. We need peace and we need open dialogue and implementation of obligations taken," the Ukrainian president said.
It is hoped that the fire will be ceased, the dialogue will occur and the president's peaceful plan will be implemented, Poroshenko said.
