Situation in Donetsk relatively quiet - authorities

The situation remains quiet in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine on Friday morning, including in the city's district where a Ukrainian Armed Forces base that was taken over by militants is located, according to a report posted on Donetsk Mayor Oleksandr Lukyanchenko's Web site.

"On the night of June 26 and June 27, following three attempts of storming, the last one of which began at 2215, armed persons seized Military Unit No. 3004 of the Ukrainian Internal Troops in the Donetsk region. The situation near the military unit was calm as of 0900. No traffic restrictions have been imposed in this district," the report says.

Utilities services, government agencies and public transport are operating as usual in Donetsk on Friday.
