Militants do not observe ceasefire, Poroshenko tells Biden

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko held talks with U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden by telephone on Sunday.

Poroshenko told Biden that the militants had violated the ceasefire in dozens of incidents and that positions of the Ukrainian military had been shelled, which was duly documented, according to the presidential press service.

Biden said that the United States was closely following the situation in Ukraine, taking note of the thorough observance of the declared peace plan and ceasefire by the government forces.

Biden also said that the U.S. was carefully monitoring the current developments in Ukraine, which ranks among its priorities.

"The Ukrainian president in turn said that the agreement to increase the number of inspectors on the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe's special monitoring mission in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, including at the checkpoints, was is an important step. The increase must envision invitation of Russian inspectors to join the OSCE's mission for monitoring and confirming the observance of the ceasefire by the Ukrainian side," the presidential press service said.
