Poroshenko waiting for parliament decision on early elections
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said he is waiting for a decision by the Verkhovna Rada to hold early parliamentary elections.
"I'm waiting for this decision from the parliament itself," he told reporters, while answering a question from Interfax-Ukraine on Wednesday.
He said that the Ukrainian people had initiated the early parliamentary elections.
"According to opinion polls, 70% of Ukrainians are demanding a reboot of power," Poroshenko said, adding that nobody has the right to ignore people's opinion.
He said that the parliament must bear political responsibility for the situation in the country, because this parliament, "on the one hand, led to numerous victims and a deep conflict in society, including through its vote on January 16 [for the laws infringing on the freedom of speech and freedom of assembly]."
