Ukraine National Guard says its soldiers were not taken captive in Luhansk region's Oleksandrivsk
The Ukrainian National Guard has denied claims that 20 of its servicemen were allegedly taken captive during fighting on the premises of the National Guard's military base, located in the town of Oleksandrivsk, Luhansk region, on May 29.
"None of the servicemen was killed or injured as the unit was stormed. The entire personnel of a unit in charge of guarding the garrison were redeployed to a safe place," the National Guard said in a press release on Friday morning.
The decision to redeploy the personnel was made after "one of the rocket grenades fired by the terrorists from a hand-held grenade launcher hit an ammunition warehouse" during the armed clash, which continued for about 30 minutes, according to the press release.
"As a result, the warehouse exploded, and the weapons and ammunition stored there were destroyed," the National Guard said.
The National Guard said on its Web site on Thursday that none of its soldiers had been killed or injured during the events.
