Volodymyr Lytvyn wants Ukraine May 25 polls to have only one round
The chairman of the Verkhovna Rada committee for national security and defense, Volodymyr Lytvyn, believes the presidential candidates ought to agree that Ukraine's May 25 elections should have only one round.
"It would be a good idea for the candidates for president to agree between themselves that the elections of Ukraine's president should be completed on May 25," Lytvyn was quoted as saying by his press service.
Such a decision "would help allay tensions in the country to a certain extent and would allow us to say that the absolutely legitimate authorities have been recognized by the people," he said.
"It is imperative for this person [Ukraine's new president] to receive support in all regions of Ukraine, including the east," Lytvyn said.
"To my great regret, such an understanding and shared responsibility is missing in our country at this extremely difficult time," he added.
