Kernes brought to Israel for treatment

Kharkiv Mayor Hennadiy Kernes, seriously wounded in the afternoon of April 28, was brought to Israel for treatment overnight into Tuesday, Kharkiv City Council information and PR department director Yuriy Sydorenko said.

"Israeli doctors came late at night on Monday - they have highly assessed the work of our doctors but have strongly recommended moving him for treatment to Israel. Israeli doctors have reached a conclusion that the mayor is transportable. The plane took off from the Kharkiv airport at 0320," Sydorenko told Interfax.

It has been reported that around noon on Monday Kernes was wounded during a jog at Belgorod highway in Kharkiv.

The mayor was brought to emergency hospital unconscious, surgery institute director Valeriy Boyko said. Kernes had surgery, the bleeding was stopped but his condition was deemed serious.

A criminal case under the Ukrainian Criminal Code Article 115 Part 15 - attempted murder - has been opened over the attack on Kernes.
