Police probe shooting of Kharkiv mayor

Police have launched a criminal inquiry into the shooting of Kharkiv mayor Hennadiy Kernes, the Interior Ministry said on Monday.

"A team of police investigators are working at the scene. The fact of the event has been entered in the single register of pre-trial investigations, efforts are under way to investigate all circumstances of this incident," the statement said.

Kernes has been taken to the local emergency-aid hospital, the ministry also said. He suffered a penetrating gunshot injury.
