Regions Party to hold extraordinary congress of deputies of all levels of Donetsk region on April 16

The Regions Party is planning to hold an extraordinary congress of deputies of all levels of Donetsk region on April 16 in response to recent events in the region.

"The deputies of the village, town, city, district and regional councils and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, elected by direct vote by residents of Donetsk region, have the legitimate authority to represent the territorial communities of Donetsk region and are the only ones fully expressing the views of residents of Donetsk region," the press service of the Donetsk regional branch of the Regions Party reported on Monday.

The congress should combine the key demands of the residents of the region and put forward them to the central authorities.

"These are the decentralization of power, the direct election of the governor, the extension of powers for the region, including budgetary autonomy, as well as the state status of the Russian language. Our goal is to protect the interests of the Donbas, prevent a breakup of Ukraine and stop further bloodshed," the press service said.
