McDonald's temporarily suspends operation of restaurants in Crimea, ready to give jobs to employees in Ukraine

Kyiv-based McDonald's Ukraine Ltd. from April 3, 2014 temporarily suspended the operation of three McDonald's fast food restaurants in Crimea for industrial reasons.

"Due to industrial reasons that do not depend on McDonald's, the operation of restaurants located in Simferopol, Sevastopol and Yalta has been temporarily suspended. We hope that we'll be able to restore their operation as soon as the opportunity appears," reads a report of the company issued on April3.

McDonald's Ukraine Ltd. said that the company gave a chance to all employees of the said restaurants to be transferred to any other McDonald's restaurant in Ukraine with the retaining of posts, wages, tariffs and payment for tickets of employees and members of their families to move to the new lodgings and payment of apartments fees within three months by the company.

"We understand and respect the decision of each of our employees. If the employee does not see a chance to move to another city or town of Ukraine we offer options for terminating labor relations in line with Ukrainian law, taking into account the interests of employees and payment of compensation," reads the report.

McDonald's Ukraine Ltd. was founded in 1995. Its first restaurant in Ukraine opened in Kyiv on May 24, 1997.

As of early April 2014, McDonald's Ukraine Ltd. operated 79 restaurants in 23 Ukrainian cities. The restaurants service about 400,000 visitors every day.

McDonald's Ukraine Ltd. in 2012 invested about UAH 200 million in the development of business in Ukraine and opened four new McDonald's restaurants in Kyiv, Rivne and Kharkiv.

Participants in McDonald's Ukraine Ltd. as of January 2, 2014 were McDonald's Restaurant Operations Inc. with 99.975% and McDonald's Europe Inc. with 0.025% (both are based in Wilmington, the United States), according to the Ukrainian state register of legal entities and individual entrepreneurs.

The charter capital of McDonald's Ukraine Ltd. as of January 2, 2014 was UAH 603.7022 million.

McDonald's has invested over $200 million in the development of its chain and infrastructure in Ukraine.
