Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has called for urgent constitutional reform to ensure decentralization of power in the country.
"We need to urgently conduct constitutional reform and pass to the people what belongs to them, and this is power and authority in the regions," he said at the Verkhovna Rada on Thursday.
"I, as prime minister, believe that when conducting the constitutional reform, it should include steps to abolish state regional administrations, establish executive committees, strip the central authorities of the functions that are alien to them and transfer these functions to the regional authorities. We will reduce the size of the central authorities by 20%. This measure is needed to implement our constitutional reform," Yatseniuk said.
