Party of Regions' Tigipko to be self-nominated presidential candidate

One of the leaders of the Party of Regions Sergiy Tigipko has submitted to the Central Election Commission documents for his registration as a self-nominated candidate for Ukrainian president.

In an interview with reporters after submitting the documents to the CEC, Tigipko expressed his hope that the congress of the Party of Regions, which was repeatedly postponed, will be held on Saturday, March 29.

"I hope that the congress will support my nomination," he said.

The presidential elections in Ukraine are scheduled for May 25, 2014.

As reported, a congress of the Party of Regions is planned for March 29 in Kyiv. Leader of the Party of Regions parliamentary faction Oleksandr Yefremov said that the congress would nominate a candidate from the party to run in the May 25 presidential election.
