Yatseniuk insists on delegating newly created executive committees with powers of regional state administrations
Ukrainian Premier Arseniy Yatseniuk has said he will insist on the liquidation of the regional state administrations as executive agencies of power in Ukraine, and delegating their powers to newly created executive committees.
"As a prime minister, I insist on the liquidation of the regional state administrations and think this is a remnant of the past," he said on Tuesday during the conference with the local government agencies that are members of the Association of Ukrainian Cities on the reform of local government and the territorial organization of the authorities in Kyiv.
In view of this Yatseniuk said there was a need to create local executive committees in each Ukrainian region after amending the Constitution and law of Ukraine.
"Executive committees must undertake a significant responsibility for the state of affairs in each region," he said.
Under the current Constitution, the president appoints the heads of regional state administrations.
