Yatseniuk on signing of agreement with EU: This is a historic moment not only for Ukraine but also for Europe

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has said that the signing of the political part of the Association Agreement is a historic moment for Ukraine and Europe.

Before the signing ceremony, which took place in Brussels on Friday as part of the EU summit, Yatseniuk confirmed that Ukraine's ultimate goal was full membership of the EU.

"My country is facing a number of economic, political and military challenges. By signing this agreement, we will demonstrate to the whole world that we are together, that Ukraine shares European values, and that together we can succeed," he said.

Yatseniuk said that he saw the work of the Ukrainian leadership in "making a reality all the Ukrainian people were struggling for."

"Let me commemorate those who gave their lives, including for this agreement, for our freedom and for the European future," he said.

In addition, he welcomed the EU's decision to unilaterally take measures that will support the Ukrainian economy.

"Much needs to be done, and we will do everything we can to bring Ukraine closer to prosperity and to make Ukraine-EU relations better," Yatseniuk said.
