Turchynov proposes parliament appoint Poltorak as National Guard commander
Verkhovna Rada Chairman and acting President Oleksandr Turchynov has tabled in parliament a draft resolution on appointing Stepan Poltorak as commander of the National Guard of Ukraine.
A respective draft resolution was registered in the Verkhovna Rada on Wednesday.
According to the law adopted by the Verkhovna Rada on March 13, the direct military management of the National Guard of Ukraine is carried out by the commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, who is also the head of the main body of military control of the National Guard of Ukraine.
The commander of the National Guard of Ukraine is appointed by the Verkhovna Rada under a motion from the president.
Poltorak was born on February 11, 1965 in the village of Vesela Dolyna, Tarutyne district, Odesa region. He is the commander of the Ukrainian Interior Troops, a lieutenant-general, Ph.D., and an associate professor.
