Ukrainian PM Yatseniuk condemns parliamentarians forcing TV manager to resign

Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has condemned some parliamentarians' actions at the National Television Company of Ukraine (NTCU) as unacceptable in a democratic country.

"These are not our approaches. A country that is going to join the European Union will follow the European community's basic principles and values in practice," Yatseniuk said in a statement available on the prime minister's official Web site.

The NTCU's work should be valued by the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers in line with the law, he said.

It was reported earlier that several members of the Svoboda (Freedom) parliamentary faction forced acting NTCU Director Oleksandr Panteleimonov to resign.

The online publication Ukrainska Pravda reported that a video available online showed the parliamentarians punching Panteleimonov in the head and the face to force him to resign.
