UN General Assembly to consider situation in Ukraine on March 20
The UN General Assembly is planning to consider the Ukrainian issue on March 20.
A plenary meeting of the UN General Assembly will be held at the request of Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the UN Yuriy Serheyev, U.S. media reported, citing diplomats at UN headquarters in New York.
UNGA resolutions unlike UN Security Council decisions are taken by simple majority and are not legally binding.
On Saturday, Russia blocked the adoption of a draft UN Security Council resolution condemning the referendum on the status of Crimea.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon earlier expressed disappointment with the referendum on the status of Crimea.
