The EU and NATO have discussed the situation in Ukraine and expressed their concern over a seriousness of the crisis and spoke for the need to preserve the territorial integrity of the country.
The European Union's Political and Security Committee and NATO's North Atlantic Council discussed the situation in Ukraine in Brussels on Tuesday, ahead of the meeting of EU heads of state or government scheduled for Thursday.
"The discussions underlined the seriousness of the crisis and showed the convergence of views in both organizations in upholding Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity, the need for a dialogue between Ukraine and Russia," reads a statement posted on the Web site of the European External Action Service.
The meeting participants spoke in favor of "de-escalating steps in view of a peaceful solution to the crisis in full respect of international law as laid down in bi-a nd multilateral commitments."
