Yatseniuk: Local government reform and decentralization of power a priority for government
Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has said that local government reform is a top priority for the government.
"Our task, as a new government, is the decentralization of power. Deputy Prime Minister Volodymyr Hroisman will be responsible for a rapid reform package on local government. We see that the main task that should currently be fulfilled by the Ukrainian government is to decentralize the authorities, which have been formed over the past four years," he said, while opening a government meeting on Wednesday.
"Rights should be given to the regions. People elected regional councils and district councils and these bodies should have respective powers," Yatseniuk said.
