Internal probe launched into Ukrainian police actions during recent standoff
Acting Ukraine Interior Minister Arsen Avakov has ordered an internal investigation into disciplinary offences and instances of excess and abuse of office by heads of the ministry's directorates in a number of Ukrainian regions.
Avakov suggested that these actions have prevented ordinary people from exercising their legitimate right to assemble peacefully and in some cases endangered their lives.
The Ukrainian Interior Ministry press service reported on Tuesday that the internal investigation had been assigned to a commission including 29 officers from the Main Staff, the personnel department, the legal department, the internal security department, the public security department, and the Main Investigative Department.
The acting minister has warned that he would personally control the fulfillment of this order and the course of the investigation.
