U.S. President, Canadian PM welcome truce in Ukraine

U.S. President Barack Obama and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper welcome a truce reached between the Ukrainian authorities and the opposition.

The two leaders agreed that "if implemented, [the truce] would be a welcome step forward in pursuing that meaningful dialogue," a spokesman for the White House said.

Obama and Harper are currently attending a regional summit in Mexico.

As was earlier reported, the results of a meeting between Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and leaders of the opposition factions in parliament Arseniy Yatseniuk of Batkivschyna party faction, Vitali Klitschko of the UDAR party and Oleh Tiahnybok of the Svoboda party on Wednesday evening include the announcement of a truce and the launch of talks to stop bloodshed and stabilize the situation in the country for the sake of civil peace.
