Constitutional reform, broad government and fair elections may resolve Ukraine crisis - Fule

The EU believes that constitutional reform, the creation of an inclusive government and fair elections are the priority tasks for resolving the crisis in Ukraine, European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule has said.

"First – it's necessary to realize important steps on constitutional reform, the formation of a new inclusive government and ensuring free and fair elections," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.

He said that he had not discussed in Kyiv the possibility of holding early elections and added that the EU was interested in the creation of all conditions for holding fair and transparent elections in the future.

"I want to make clear that our discussions do not concern early elections. We talk and constantly emphasize that our main work is aimed at ensuring proper conditions for future elections, be it presidential, parliamentary or local elections," Fule said.

As for early elections, Fule said that this question should be resolved by the Ukrainian people.
