Fule hopes for joint investigation with CoE into violence during Ukraine protests
The European Union hopes for the speedy launch of the work of an independent commission involving the opposition, the authorities and Council of Europe experts to help investigate cases of violence during protests in Ukraine, EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule has said.
"I have been informed at the Council of Europe that an important expert was appointed from their side and that experts from the authorities are now to be appointed. I very much hope for a constructive and rapid decision of the authorities, which will help launch the work of this commission," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.
He noted that the initiative on the creation of such a commission had earlier been put forward by Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland and that the EU considered the beginning of the commission's work to be very important.
