Yanukovych assures Jagland of his readiness to hold talks with opposition to overcome crisis
The Ukrainian authorities intend to continue the talks with the opposition to resolve the current political crisis in the country, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych said during a meeting with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thornbjorn Jagland.
"We are committed to continuing the constructive talks with the opposition to search for ways out of the political crisis within the legal framework," Yanukovych said in Sochi (Russia), where he is on a working visit.
Yanukovych also told Jagland that Kyiv appreciated the attention the Council of Europe was paying to the situation in the country and expressed the hope that this would contribute to the efficient resolution of the political crisis in Ukraine, the president's press service reported.
He said important steps in this direction have been taken recently, in particular, the nine legislative acts passed on January 16 were canceled, and a law on the amnesty of participants of mass protests was adopted.
