Prosecutor general: 259 people fall under new amnesty law, 70 of them still in custody
Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka has said that the new amnesty law applies to 259 people, who are suspected of violating public order during mass rallies in Kyiv in January this year.
"This law applies to a total of 259 people. These are people, who have been notified that they are suspected of committing crimes. Of them, 150 people were arrested (some 70 people remain in custody). The majority of other participants of the confrontation were put under house arrest, the rest were released under an obligation to appear in court if summoned," the prosecutor general told central TV channels in Ukraine, the PGO's press service reported on Wednesday.
The prosecutor general said that the amnesty law would apply only if protesters freed all the administrative buildings without exception, pulled apart the barricades and unblocked transport routes in all the regions of Ukraine.
Unless these conditions are met by February 17, all these people will face trial, Pshonka added.
