234 people detained, 140 of them arrested during ongoing protests in Ukraine - Prosecutor General's Office
As many as 234 people have been detained during the current protests in Ukraine, and 140 of them have been arrested, the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's Office reported on Thursday.
"Four people have died, including Interior Ministry officials, and over 500 people, including 253 law enforcement officials, have sustained bodily injuries," it said.
The numerous offences that have been committed lately have produced an erroneous feeling of impunity, the Prosecutor General's Office said. "This has resulted in violations of public order, mass unrest, the use of weapons, seizures of office of government bodies, and attempts to set up actually parallel pseudo-governance bodies," it said.
There have also been numerous violations of the constitution and other laws on the part of local self-government bodies, and prosecution authorities have appealed these actions through courts, it said.
The Verkhovna Rada has continued a search for a political compromise by passing legislation headlined 'On eliminating negative consequences and preventing prosecution and punishment of individuals in connection with the events that have taken place during the mass protest actions,' it said.
