Ukraine's ruling party denies state of emergency rumors

There is no need to impose a state of emergency in Ukraine, said people's deputy Vadym Kolesnichenko from the Party of Regions faction, who denied his party's plans to call an extraordinary Verkhovna Rada session to impose a state of emergency in the country.

"This information is untrue. The question of introducing a state of emergency in Ukraine was not considered by the president, was not considered by the government, nor was it considered by Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada for one simple reason: there is no need to impose a state of emergency because of some group of fascist-minded lads currently provoking a civil standoff in one part of Kyiv," he told a press conference at the Interfax-Ukraine agency on Tuesday.

"Ukraine is under control, the city of Kyiv is under control, and the authorities will take adequate measures to contain this situation in accordance with the law in the very near future," Kolesnichenko added.

Party of Regions' deputies are set to convene an extraordinary session on January 23 in order to impose a state of emergency in the country, several media outlets said earlier.
