Berkut police officer held hostage, beaten by protesters, police report
A Berkut riot police officer was captured by protests during clashes with police near the Dynamo stadium downtown Kyiv on Sunday.
"He was held hostage in the House of Trade Unions of Ukraine, but police freed the officer. Doctors conducted preliminary examination of him and found a closed craniocerebral injury, broken ribs and nose; the patient was in a state of shock," the Ukrainian Interior Ministry's media liaison office reported on Sunday evening.
The Berkut officer said that he had been beaten by protesters to injuries while on the way to the House of Trade Unions and when held hostage inside the building.
After he was freed, he was taken to a police hospital where he is given necessary medical aid.
