EU ambassador: legislation should be adopted via proper procedures
Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine Jan Tombinski has expressed his concern over the way the Verkhovna Rada passed some laws on Thursday without observing proper procedures.
"I am concerned about the way some laws were voted in parliament today. Norms should be adopted through proper procedures. Otherwise the credibility of democratic institutions and of the legal system is at stake," the ambassador said in a comment made available to Interfax-Ukraine.
The Verkhovna Rada on Thursday adopted the state budget for 2014 without any discussion. In addition, the MPs passed other important laws. They had to vote by show of hands, as opposition MPs blocked the voting cards of their colleagues from the majority, thus blocking the vote through the Rada's electronic voting system.
