PACE co-rapporteurs soon to visit Tymoshenko

The co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Mailis Reps and Marietta de Pourbaix-Lundin, have again urged the Ukrainian authorities to release former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, and plan soon to visit her in Kharkiv's hospital, the press service of the Batkivschyna Party has reported.

This issue was discussed at a meeting between the PACE co-rapporteurs and the ex-premier's daughter, Yevhenia Tymoshenko, on Friday.

Tymoshenko disclosed the ex-premier's position on desired ways and mechanisms for a peaceful solution to the political crisis in Ukraine.

The PACE co-rapporteurs, in turn, condemned the use of force against protesters on Independence Square in Kyiv and called on the authorities to comply with Ukrainian legislation and international obligations.

"Such actions contradict the obligations of Ukraine as part of its membership of the OSCE and are unacceptable," Reps said.

They also condemned the recent attack on the headquarters of the Batkivschyna Party.

According to the press service, the meeting was attended by Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on European Integration Hryhoriy Nemyria, Head of Office of the Council of Europe in Ukraine Vladimir Ristovski, and the ex-premier's defense counsel, Serhiy Vlasenko.
